The 1st XI took on fellow mid table side portchester at roundhill in what proved to be a rain affected but close game. After winning the toss and electing to field the portchester openers got off to a rapid start with some slick shots and with the outfield being very quick despite the rain soon raced to 100 but with the rain falling steadily the players came off for the first rain break which seemed to help Bramshaw. The run rate slowed with a steady flow of wickets from the spin trio of ben 2-58 and the two kevs with both taking 3 wickets to bowl 'porch' out for 242. A target of 230 from 43 overs was set due to the time lost and the openers set about trying to get a good start. Wally was the first to go to a superb catch at square leg. This brought last weeks 'bespectacled' centurian to the crease and he and Kev Marshall batted very responsably to put Bramshaw in a good position but after skips was bowled for 65 and george wasstumped for 0 the run rate began to climb. Kev was the next to fall for a well crafted 51. Jammo, making his first appearance of the season for the 1st's, tried to up the rate with some lusty blows to go with the spicy sledging that was very much in going against the spirit and all that but after losing the lower order fairly quick they needed 6 off the last over jammo was adjudged lbw for 44 to end the innings and fall 6 runs short!
