Bramshaw 2nd Xl vs Portsmouth 3
Saturdays match against Portsmouth 3rd's can only be described as a dream..... well nightmare. Skipper Timmo lost another toss and Bramshaw were invited to field in perfect conditions (for sailors) with a force 10 gale blowing across the pitch. Still at least they had the consolation of being able to dance to the reggae music that was blarting out from the Cameroon Day festivities which were taking place on the adjacent pitches.
Wickets fell steadily all afternoon and with the score at 107-9 a senior member of the team commented on how he was looking forward to a nice cup of tea (he ended up waiting until he got home!!) The last wicket pair ended up adding a further 36 runs to see Pompey finishing on 143 all out. However with all the catches dropped the total should really have been alot less. Tim 3-47, Rich Beresford 3-23 , Ian 2-30 and Kev 1-27 were the succesful bowlers but special mention goes to young Tom Beresford who bowled a tight 5 over spell on his 2nd Team debut.
The Bramshaw inninnings got off to a slow start, on what can only be described as a "dodgy" track and wickets fell again at a steady rate. At 20-3, 58-4 and 68-5 it looked as though a 2nd successive defeat was going to be on the cards but then step forward Billy and 14 year old Tom Arnold. The pair took the score on to 131 with Tom coming of age with a patient 21. Billy, who played one of his best inninngs for many a year, finished the game with a 4 to end on 51 not out.
All in all a satisfactory team performance which should leave us in good spirits for next week's home game against Brockenhurst.
