2nd's finish on a high!!
The 2nd XI finished there county 4 south campaign with a good win against a pretty good IBM Hursley side to finish 8th and cap an up and down season!
After losing the toss in what could be his last game as captain Mr Magoo's men were surprisingly put in to bat on what was still a damp track and did'nt get off to the best of starts with the
captain being dismissed for a duck! Ooo arrr chris spryar finally managed to get into double figures to hit 27 but he was soon out and with brian getting stumped a repair job was needed
by jammo and kev marshall. With a pretty inexperienced lower order the pair of them played unusually cautiously to put on a stand of over 100. The partnership was broken with kev trying to push the score
along getting caught for 46. Jammo completed his half century but soon fell in the same way for 60 and with not many overs left bramshaw managed to reach 212 off there 45 overs.
IBM got off to a good start and reached 90 for 1 just before drinks but with the batsmen looking comfortable kev marshall came on to rip through the top order and put the home side back in control.
Ed Moore came on and took a wicket with his first ball and kev ended up with 4 wickets to cap a fine all round performance and bowled IBM out for 142.
All in all an ok season the 1st's finished 6th from bottom but with injuries and work/family commitments to key players throughout the year they were unable to field there strongest team
most weeks and hopefully with the players concerned returning next season a top half finish should be expected. The 3rd's gained promotion so congratulaions to phil and his team.
Well another long winter is upon us and i shall begrudgingly return to the monestry and continue my vow of silence until next may!
Thankyou for reading the monkfiles and i hope you have enjoyed the debut season of it!
