JACK ROGERS IS DEMON BOWLER |
| |
10.08.07 |
|
Mike Vimpany wrote in the Daily Echo on Thursday that - Bramshaw Sunday skipper Tim Rogers was at a loss to know how to bowl over Fareham & Crofton's stubborn tailenders - so he tossed the ball to his son Jack. Inside seven balls, Jack had clean bowled both Michael Marchant (left) and Michael Collins (right) and brought Fareham's innings to an end at 202 all out. So what, you might think? Well, Jack (pictured centre) is only eight years of age and stands barely 4 feet tall in his cricket socks! "It was the first time he'd ever set foot on the pitch in a men's game; he's only ever played kwik cricket with a rubber bat and stumps before," father Tim explained. "But he kept on and on at me to play, so we let him have his chance - and he did superbly well." Jack Rogers certainly knew how to bowl. Tossing the ball up high and getting turn when it landed, Jack bamboozled both Marchant and Collins with his off-spin in quick succession. "He eats, drinks and sleeps cricket and can't wait to grow a bit more so he can really participate," dad Tim said. "He's got the makings of a very useful cricketer." Jack also showed prowess with the bat, scoring four not out. Alas, he wasn't able to prevent Bramshaw slipping to a narrow eight-run defeat. see the picture here. |
